Sólfar studios secures €2 million in seed funding

Sólfar Studios, a VR game studio founded by CCP veterans, announced last Wednesday (Nov 11.) that they had secured a €2 million in seed funding from a syndicate of venture capitalist funds. The syndicate includes Shanda Group, Tianqiao Chen’s private investment group, Iceland’s NSA Ventures, and Finnish VCs Inventure and Reaktor Ventures along with individual investors.

“It’s a privilege to welcome a strong and visionary investor group from the Nordic countries and Asia to fuel our growth into the fascinating field of VR,” said CEO and co-founder Kjartan Pierre Emilsson. “By benefiting from their strong network, experience and access to a global talent pool, we are dramatically accelerating Sólfar’s ability to create trailblazing content for this medium of the future.”

Sólfar’s first game is Godling, for the Playstation 4’s VR headset Morpheus, and just announced Everest VR, a co-production with RVX, promising to immerse the viewer in an adventure to the top of Everest.

Sólfar had previously received $500,000 in seed funding from angel investors Vilhjálmur Þorsteinsson, Investa and several Finnish angel investors.
