Tulipop secures a $1.8M investment from Eyrir Vöxtur

Earlier this week, Tulipop, a fantasy world and lifestyle brand from Iceland, raised $1.8M from the Icelandic growth fund Eyrir Vöxtur.

After being founded in 2010, Tulipop became known for producing merchandise featuring the Tulipop characters, but in recent years the focus has shifted to developing and producing entertainment based on the Tulipop world. The company’s biggest project has been the production of a cartoon tv-series called Tulipop Tales. The plan is to  produce four tv-series, thirteen episodes each.

Currently, 100 employees work for Tulipop on the production of the series, both in Iceland and abroad. Tulipop Tales is the first Icelandic cartoon tv series to be distributed internationally.

In Iceland, the first series of Tulipop Tales premiered last year on Sjónvarp Símans, which is an Icelandic streaming service. The series has also been featured on NRK in Norway, YLE in Finland with other countries following suit in the coming weeks.

Helga Árnadóttir, the CEO of Tulipop, had this to say about the newly announced investment: “It is a pleasure to have Eyrir Vöxtur join the strong group of shareholders. The company is at a very exciting juncture now that the cartoon series Tulipop Tales is about to premiere all around the world. There are great opportunities and possibilities to further build the brand and form strong partnerships to produce toys, publish books, and much more. The aim is to produce more cartoons based on this popular Icelandic intellectual property in the future.”

Stefanía Guðrún Halldórsdóttir, the CEO of Eyrir Vöxtur, says: “We have watched Tulipop build a unique Icelandic brand for children on a global scale, with an emphasis on quality and sending a positive message. The market opportunity for a brand like this is massive, and we look forward to participating in the journey that lies ahead in bringing Tulipop to market internationally.”
