Rocky Road raises $2.5M from Crowberry Capital and Sisu Game Ventures
Rocky Road, a social games company, has announced a $2.5 million Seed funding round led by Crowberry Capital and Sisu Game Ventures. The company plans to build the first casual open world mobile game built on real map data.
Rocky Road was founded by Thor Fridriksson, Vala Halldorsdottir and Sveinn Davidsson, the creators of QuizUp, a trivia game with more than 100 million users. Plain Vanilla Games, the mobile games studio that created the game, was sold to Glu Mobile in 2016.
“I have always been a fan of huge game worlds where players can interact with one another, meet new people and create long lasting relationships. ,” says Thor Fridriksson, CEO, and co-founder of Rocky Road. The company says it’s creating the first casual MMO for mobile and Thor goes on to say “We are building Rocky Road on the premise that normal people are excited to play and socialise in a massive game world and we are focused to deliver that experience in an accessible way.”
The team plans to use the investment to double the Rocky Road team in Iceland and to set up a Development office in Kiev, Ukraine.
