The winners of the Nordic Startup Awards - Iceland

Today, the winners of the Icelandic finale of the Nordic Startup Awards were announced. “The winners were selected by a panel of judges, each with proven experience and skill in recognising the potential of a startup. These choices were based upon the nominee’s quality and impact within their industry or field,” a statement explains. The event was hosted by Innovation Center Iceland.

Each of these winners will be moving on to compete in the Nordic region’s Grand Finale, which is being held October 18th in Stockholm.

The winners and categories are the following:

Startup of the Year – Activity Stream

Founder of the Year – Margret Juliana Sigurdardottir

Margrét is the co-founder of Rosamosi game studio, the developer of Mussila, a series of highly interactive and engaging music apps for children that offer a variety of musical challanges and creative tools for music making.

Best Accelerator Program – Startup Reykjavik

A 10 week long mentorship driven seed stage accelerator program that runs from June to August each year from Reykjavík, Iceland.

Best Coworking Space – Hús Sjávarklasans (Ocean Cluster)

“The Ocean Cluster is a community of companies and entrepreneurs in marine science at the West Harbor in Reykjavík. There, 65 progressive companies are creating a new fishing industry.”

Investor of the Year – Frumtak Ventures II

“Frumtak II focuses on investments where high growth and expansion is likely, but doesn’t specialize in individual sectors. Frumtak II wants to promote original ideas and increase the likelihood that they will generate profit and value.”

Best Startup Ecosystem Initiative – Frumbjörg
