Product launch: Takumi – the app that connects influencers with brands

Takumi, an Icelandic startup that aims to connect companies with influencers on Instagram, was launched today in the Appstore. The premise is simple: Instagram users with more than 1,000 followers can sign up in Takumi’s app and start getting paid for posting photos.

“We’ve seen a rise in brands reaching out to influencers on social media in regards to advertising,” says co-founder Sólberg Auðunsson.

“There needs to be an efficient platform for managing reputation, payments and communication. But none of the current offerings are really acknowledging how far into the long tail you could go, and our payment processing is unparalleled.”

Takumi, which is headquartered in Reykjavik with sales offices is London, is aimed at the UK market at first, with the aim of adding new markets in early 2016.

In the app, the influencer has a range of brands to work with, and is guaranteed a minimum of £40 per posted photo. Reimbursement is based on Instagram reach and engagement, and the company promises no hidden fees. For the launch, Takumi has partnered with companies such as 66°NORTH, Sealskinz, Latest in Beauty & Sipsmith among others.

“The app removes friction steps such as fee negotiation, feedback and automates payment processing for both advertisers and Instagram influencers,” says Sólberg who was one of the first employees of trivia game QuizUp.
